Brazilian Vice President leads mission to India to boost trade and cooperation

Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin has launched a multisectoral mission to India from 15 to 17 October 2025, aiming to strengthen trade, investment and job creation in both countries. The visit builds on agreements reached between President Lula da Silva and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Modi’s state visit to Brazil in July and marks a new stage in the Brazil–India Strategic Partnership, established in 2006.

The mission focuses on several strategic areas: food and nutritional security, energy transition, digital transformation, and industrial cooperation. Between January and May 2025, Brazilian exports to India rose 14.8 per cent, while imports grew 31.8 per cent, highlighting India’s growing importance as Brazil’s seventh-largest trading partner.

Alckmin highlighted the mission’s dual goals: “We aim to open markets, expand trade and investment, and generate jobs in both countries. Brazil is ready to move faster and stronger with India.” This is reported by the
official website of Brazil’s government.

Key initiatives include expanding the Mercosur–India Preferential Trade Agreement, promoting sustainable energy solutions, strengthening public health and agroindustry cooperation, and fostering digital and technological exchange. The visit also includes the Brazil–India Business Dialogue and the creation of a permanent Business Leaders Forum to enhance strategic economic collaboration.

This mission reinforces 76 years of diplomatic ties and underscores both nations’ commitment to deepening economic, industrial and technological cooperation.
