China has started construction of its first factory dedicated to the production of photonic quantum computers in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, as reported by
CGTN, a partner of TV BRICS.
The facility, confirmed by the science and technology innovation bureau of Shenzhen’s Nanshan District, is expected to produce dozens of photonic quantum computers annually once operational.
Photonic quantum computing uses the quantum properties of light to perform calculations and is considered one of the leading global approaches to quantum technology. Unlike other methods, it does not require ultra-low temperatures and provides significant advantages, including stable operation at room temperature, a higher number of qubits and long coherence times.
According to official information, the new plant will focus on module development, full-system production, and rigorous quality testing. Construction is already underway, with initial equipment expected to be installed by the end of October.
The launch of this facility positions Shenzhen as a hub for quantum innovation and underscores China’s drive to accelerate breakthroughs in strategic emerging technologies.
