Latin American and Caribbean diplomats hold meeting at Moscow’s Victory Museum

The ambassadors laid wreaths and discussed the importance of preserving history

The meeting was dedicated to the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Venezuela, as well as the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Venezuelan Ambassador to Russia Jesus Rafael Salazar Velasquez spoke about the long history of friendship between the two states.

“A strong alliance! This is how we can characterise the diplomatic relations between our countries, based on solidarity and mutual respect,” he stressed.

Heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Public Chamber laid a wreath and red carnations at the monument to the fighter for the independence of Latin America Simon Bolivar. Then there was a tour of the Victory Museum. Its director, Aleksander Shkolnik, welcomed the guests.

“It is a great honour for us to receive such a high delegation in our museum, especially on the eve of the most important date for Russia, one of the greatest holidays – May 9,” he said.

Nikita Anisimov, a member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, shared his plans for international cooperation in a conversation with TV BRICS.

“We have now already implemented several public diplomacy projects with Latin American countries, including Brazil, which I think is very important because Brazil is also our BRICS partner. And now, on the anniversary of the Victory, we are planning a joint Russian-Brazilian concert in the city of Ribeirao Preto, near Sao Paulo, dedicated to the anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War,” he said.

In Russia, preparations for the Victory Parade on Red Square have already begun. It is planned that the event will be attended by the heads of Latin American states.
