Ethiopia promotes its initiative for environmental change in Africa
Ethiopia plans to promote its Green Legacy Initiative (GLI) as a model for environmental change in the region. The initiative aims to use Ethiopia’s positive experience in environmental protection and climate change to catalyse similar measures in other African countries. This is reported by
ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.
GLI Technical Committee Chairman Adefris Worku said initiative aims to maximise national green cover and actively involve the community in national reforestation campaigns.
According to Adefris Worku, Ethiopia is making significant progress in rehabilitating degraded land, turning it into fertile land suitable for agriculture, grazing, maintaining healthy watersheds and reforestation.
The initiative also aims to create market opportunities for trading carbon units, which can be an alternative way to create jobs in the fast-growing green economy.
The initiative also promotes agroforestry, which creates opportunities for the production of timber, wild honey, spices, frankincense, myrrh, gum, and forms a value chain.
