Beijing aims for extensive 5G implementation by 2027
New action plan prioritises Infrastructure upgrades, smart ecosystems, and 45 per cent industrial uptake
By 2027, Beijing plans to achieve widespread 5G adoption and full integration of the technology across various sectors, establishing itself as a top national model for 5G deployment. This is reported by
Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
The initiative, introduced by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology along with the Beijing Communications Administration, outlines key objectives such as universal 5G access for consumers, more than 75 per cent of total network traffic handled by 5G, and a 45 per cent uptake rate among major industrial firms by the target year.
As part of infrastructure enhancements, the city will install 70 5G and 5G-Advanced (5G-A) base stations per 10,000 people, with over 35,000 new or modernised 5G-A stations to guarantee uninterrupted 5G connectivity inside the Fifth Ring Road and advanced 5G-A services in crucial zones.
Additionally, Beijing will develop a robust ecosystem and explore new applications for 5G-enabled intelligent robotics, portable devices, and cloud-based systems. The strategy also promotes innovations merging 5G with extended reality platforms, glasses-free 3D displays, smart wearable tech, and connected home solutions.
