The Ministry of Ports and Airports has begun to develop a comprehensive action plan to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in aviation sector.

This plan aims to gather innovative solutions from industry stakeholders to make air transport more environmentally friendly. Civil aviation is responsible for 3 per cent of global CO2 emissions, and the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) made from renewable raw materials such as vegetable oils and biomass is one of the key solutions.

Law 14.993/24, also known as the Future Fuels Law, provides for the gradual reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through the mandatory use of SAF in domestic operations. This is reported by the official website of the Brazilian Government.

Starting on 1 January 2027, SAF will be 1 per cent of fuel, and by 1 January 2037, the figure will reach at least 10 per cent.
