Russian President Vladimir Putin and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim discuss development of economic ties

Putin invited Malaysia’s Sultan Ibrahim to Russia

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim arrived in Moscow, where he held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is reported by the official
website of the Russian President.

It is noted that the parties discussed the development of political and economic ties, as well as outlined steps to deepen them. In addition, they exchanged views on key issues on the international and regional agenda.

“Malaysia is our long-standing, very reliable and significant partner: both in general and in Southeast Asia. I know that since 1 January this year, you have held the chairmanship of ASEAN. We expect that our relations with this respected, solid association with your help will develop in the same way as relations between our countries are developing”

“We are developing humanitarian ties. One of the directions – it is both humanitarian and economic in nature – is tourism. Malaysia is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for Russian tourists,” Putin added.

Anwar Ibrahim, in turn, thanked the Russian leader for the reception, noted the extensiveness of the talks and the importance of relations with Russia.

“We have taken the following position. We ensure cooperation in all spheres, at all levels. I know that you are very busy, a lot of leaders have come to see you in recent weeks, and we wish you all the best. We hope that we will also have important meetings in the next few days after we leave for Kazan”
