Malaysia plans to produce electric vehicles in Kazakhstan



The Central Asian republic is actively developing its machine-building industry

Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektanov held a meeting with the CEO of Malaysian car manufacturer Chunrong Li. This was reported by
Kazinform, a partner of TV BRICS.

Olzhas Bektanov noted that, on the instructions of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the country is actively promoting the development of mechanical engineering with an emphasis on the introduction of modern technologies, the location of production facilities within the country and the creation of new jobs. According to him, investment in this area is important for sustainable economic growth. In the first quarter of this year, 55 billion tenge (approximately US$54 million) was invested in the industry, and in 2024, the total investment volume was 282 billion tenge (about US$538 million).

Chunrong Li, in turn, expressed interest in the country’s entry into the Kazakh market, noting the attractive conditions created for investors.

The Kazakh government expressed its readiness to support the implementation of the project. The parties also noted the promising prospects for cooperation in the field of research and development for the development of the country’s scientific and technical potential.
