Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero maintains he always knew he would retain the mayoral chain despite a motion of no confidence against him. The DA tabled the motion against Morero, arguing that he had failed in his duties resulting in the City deteriorating.
The opposition party also raised concerns with the establishment of the bomb squad, saying the mayor failed to consult council on the initiative.
Morero admits that there are service delivery challenges in the city. However, he believes the DA was playing politics when they filed the motion against him.
“We are disappointed with the DA. The arguments that they presented in council were very weak, not convincing and any resident listening to them will basically make a conclusion that it was just electioneering, nothing to do with the state of Johannesburg. We have admitted that things in Johannesburg, which in fact we have admitted that things are not well in Johannesburg, they require attention. And that is the attention we are giving to Johannesburg, whether through the budget we passed, the bomb squad of people with skills and expertise,” says Morero.
