DA to lay criminal charges against Higher Education Minister Nkabane

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it will be laying criminal charges against the Minister of Higher Education and Training Dr Nobuhle Nkabane on Tuesday ahead of her tabling the department’s Budget vote in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP).

The party says while President Cyril Ramaphosa continues to take no action against African National Congress corruption in the executive, it will use every means to fight it.

Over the weekend, the party announced that it will not support the Budget votes of ministers it deemed compromised.

This is after giving Ramaphosa an ultimatum of 48 hours to remove Nkabane, Human Settlements Minister, Thembi Simelane and Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, David Mahlobo. This, in light of the firing of DA’s Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Andrew Whitfield.

Following the expiry of the 48 hours, the DA announced it would withdraw support for the budgets of these ministries as well as its participation in the August National Dialogue.
