Iran has climbed to ninth place in the global ranking of the world’s largest steel producers, according to TV BRICS partner
Mehr News Agency, citing data from the World Steel Association (WSA).
In May, Iran produced 3.4 million metric tonnes of steel, marking a 4.5 per cent increase compared to the same month last year.
Globally, steel output declined, with a 3.8 per cent year on year drop in May to 158.8 million tonnes and a 1.3 per cent decrease for the January to May period to 784 million tonnes. China remained the world’s largest producer, churning out over 431 million tonnes in the first five months.
Earlier, National Research University “Moscow Power Engineering Institute” (MPEI)
invented an environmentally friendly method of steel production. The technology was based on the use of hydrocarbon mixture and natural gas.
