Expert from Russia calls for synchronisation of environmental requirements in BRICS countries

He paid particular attention to the creation of a technological platform that would bring together best practices and solutions

Aleksander Zakondyrin, Director of the All-Russian Research Institute for Environmental Protection, has put forward an initiative to coordinate environmental standards between BRICS countries. He announced this in an exclusive interview with TV BRICS.

According to Zakondyrin, environmental legislation varies significantly from country to country, and harmonising it will help to develop a unified approach to resource conservation, waste disposal and the development of a circular economy. He noted that Russia has accumulated considerable experience during the national project “Ecology” and has begun implementing a new project, “Environmental Well-being.”

He paid particular attention to the creation of a technological platform that will bring together best practices and solutions in the field of environmental protection.

“Russia can act as a technological partner and supplier of environmental solutions for other BRICS countries, and is also interested in borrowing advanced developments from its partners,” he said.

Zakondyrin also emphasised the importance of localising imported technologies. This will enable the development of domestic environmental engineering, microbiology and microelectronics. In particular, he identified nature management in the Arctic as a promising area, where advanced solutions are needed to develop economically challenging deposits.

He concluded that forming sustainable ties with other countries will allow Russia to obtain the necessary technologies and ensure steady economic growth.
