Indian expert notes need to establish permanent BRICS secretariat
Speaking ahead of the upcoming BRICS summit, Robinder Sachdev, Senior Geopolitical Expert and President of the Imagindia Institute, emphasised the need for stronger coordination mechanisms within the group. In an exclusive interview with
ANI, a partner of TV BRICS, he called for BRICS to establish a permanent secretariat to strengthen its institutional framework and ensure effective implementation of decisions.
“My expectations and what I look forward to is to see how BRICS formalises itself more as an institution. I think now this year BRICS is entering a new era for BRICS. I call it BRICS 2.0,” he said.
A key priority, according to Sachdev, is the creation of a permanent BRICS secretariat, similar to that of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), to enable better follow-up and coordination of decisions. He suggested that it could be hosted by Russia, India, or jointly by both nations.
Sachdev also highlighted the areas where BRICS cooperation could deepen in this next phase, including trade, technology transfer, intellectual property, energy security, supply chains, and the development of economic corridors. He believes that stronger links in these fields would help BRICS play “an increasingly influential role in world affairs and the newly emerging world matrix.”
Furthermore, he suggested that enhanced BRICS cooperation holds the potential to bring more human connectivity across the planet on all aspects, including environment, climate change, and humanitarian issues.
