Qekema re-elected as AZAPO president

Members of the Azanian People’s Organisation (Azapo) have re-elected Nelvis Qekema as the organisation’s president with a total of 265 votes. His deputy is Dudu Shaba whose nomination went unopposed.

The organisations’s incoming secretary general is Mbulelo Ketshe also unopposed.

Qekema told delegates that he is not the president of those who elected him but will lead the entire AZAPO in every corner of the country.

The 27th elective congress held at the Bon Hotel in Bloemfontein will come to a close on Sunday afternoon.

Giving a message of support during the last day of the elective congress, PAC chairperson, Apa Pooe, emphasised that the organisation has to be more ideologically sharpened and not confused if it is to lead society.

According to the re-elected president, nothing should stop the organisation from doing the same in the democratic dispensation. Qekema  has declared that the giant has been reawakened.

He invoked members to go and organise to build a stronger organisation that will participate in legislatures from local government going up. Adding that there is no use barking from outside.

“Number two let’s populate those legislatures in as Azapo, let’s invade the legislatures. Let’s go there and speak on behalf of the people. Let us not bark outside let’s kick the tables inside and rearrange the rules rearrange the furniture, we can’t do that if we are outside. It doesn’t matter how politically correct we think we are.”

Qekema has emphasised that the organisation will push for the implementation of the National Health Insurance, which he says is being rejected by the country’s rich.

“And because of that rejection by a rich few, President Ramaphosa has taken it back for review and as Azapo we are saying we are going to take him up on that in action including taking him to court ensuring that this NHI which takes care of people particularly black people must be implemented without fail.”
