Ethiopia unveils two national programmes to boost food security
The Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture has launched two major initiatives seeking to enhance food security, boost economic growth, and improve nutrition.
The launch, held in Addis Ababa under the theme “The Future is Horticulture,” brought together government representatives, development partners, and private sector stakeholders to forge a common vision for a modern, resilient agricultural economy. This was reported by
ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.
Minister of Agriculture Girma Amente described the initiatives as key to unlocking Ethiopia’s horticultural potential. He stressed that modern farming methods, improved supply chains, and expanded market access would lead to increased exports, job creation, and better nutrition. The new strategy places strong emphasis on research, post-harvest management, and marketing infrastructure to build a more robust value chain.
The authorities also outlined the broader goals of the horticulture strategy, including agro-processing, job creation – particularly for women and youth – and reducing dependence on imported goods.
