Kazakhstan introduces EAEU transit tracking system

Kazakhstan is introducing a digital system to monitor transit shipments as part of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), while also setting ambitious goals to expand freight volumes in the coming years.

The initiatives were presented by Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Zhaslan Madiyev and Minister of Transport Nurlan Sauranbayev during a government meeting, as reported by
Kazinform, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to Madiyev, the new information platform will provide real-time cargo monitoring. The system has passed cybersecurity tests, is integrated with the information systems of all EAEU member states, and is now being connected to the State Revenue Committee’s databases.

“At the first stage, the system will cover around 6 percent of total freight flows at seven external borders of Kazakhstan. This will help prevent ‘false transit’ schemes,” the Minister said.

At the same session, Minister of Transport Sauranbayev stressed Kazakhstan’s growing role as an international transit hub.

“Kazakhstan is located on key routes of global trade. Five international railway corridors pass through our territory. Over the past ten years, the volume of transit has doubled, reaching 27.4 million tonnes in 2024. This year it is expected to reach 33 million tonnes, and next year more than 54 million tonnes,” he noted.

The government aims to increase transit volumes to 67 million tonnes by the end of 2029. According to international analysts, the figure could reach 100 million tonnes by 2035.

“Our strategic goal is to achieve this target even earlier,” Sauranbayev added.
