Kazakhstan’s Ambassador: we are looking to develop logistics link with Malaysia

Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Bulat Sugurbayev, said discussions are underway on a potential partnership to establish a logistics link connecting Malaysia with Kazakhstan and major markets beyond. This is reported by
BERNAMA News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

“We have discussed with [rail authorities – ed.] on the potential to explore and develop a logistics link from Malaysia to China to Kazakhstan, and in the process use the latter as an overland freight gateway to major markets,” Sugurbayev stated.

The envoy noted that Malaysian exporters could make use of Kazakhstan’s Port of Khorgos, described as the world’s largest dry port and a gateway to China. He added that existing railway connections would also link Kazakhstan with ASEAN countries via China.

The ambassador added that Kazakhstan’s dry ports operate as free trade zones, providing competitive conditions for trade and logistics. He encouraged Malaysian investors to explore opportunities in Kazakhstan’s infrastructure, electrical and electronics sectors, and other industries.

“Malaysia can benefit from Kazakhstan through its vast land, abundant resources, a well-educated population, and ongoing legislative reforms and in turn, Malaysian investors can contribute expertise, advanced processing and value-added capabilities. This is why Kazakhstan actively incentivises investments that create jobs and add value locally,” Sugurbayev said.

From January to November 2024, total trade between Malaysia and Kazakhstan stood at US$134.7 million.
