India is set to celebrate its second annual National Space Day this Saturday, marking a new step in the country’s journey from launching satellites to pioneering human spaceflight. The day will serve as a platform to showcase achievements and outline future ambitions in the sector, as reported by the
official resource of the Indian government.
Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Science and Technology, announced the celebration, highlighting India’s progression “from satellites to human spaceflight,” in a statement shared online.
In 2020, India opened the space sector to private participation through the establishment of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre. Since then, over 300 space-related start-ups have been registered, officials confirm, demonstrating a surge in entrepreneurial activity.
The government revealed that the first uncrewed mission under the Gaganyaan human spaceflight programme is slated for December. This mission will feature Vyommitra, a half-humanoid robot, paving the way for future crewed flights, the source claims.
