Tourism experts emphasise that whale sharks have become a new attraction for visitors to Pulau Miang Village in East Kutai District, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. This is reported by
Antara News.
They note that the gentle nature of these marine giants offers an opportunity to develop conservation-focused tourism in the area. Members of the local tourism awareness group are conducting research and mapping whale shark behaviour and occurrence patterns to identify suitable locations and times for safe observation and swimming.
According to initial monitoring, around four whale sharks have been actively swimming off Pulau Miang.
Experts stress that weather conditions and tidal patterns play a key role in sightings, and further study is required to establish a reliable schedule for tourist activities.
