Viewers get acquainted with Argentine cinema at film screening in Moscow

The TV BRICS media network presented films by directors from BRICS+ countries to participants in the All-Russian “Cinema Night” event. Exclusive screenings took place at the Russian State Library for Foreign Literature named after M. I. Rudomino. Films of the international media network’s Latin American partners occupied a special place in the TV BRICS programme.

For the first time, Russian cinema-goers were presented with a film from TV BRICS’ partner in Argentina – “Trombonists” (“Tromboneros”, Argentina, 2021, directed by Luciano Giardino).

The film tells the story of musicians from different countries who gather annually in the Argentine province of Santa Fe to exchange experiences and pass on their knowledge to their students. Over time, these training courses have evolved into an international festival that brings together trombonists from around the world. According to the director, it has been running for over 20 years.

“Over time, the event has attracted many people from different Latin American countries. Musicians strive to improve their playing, and teachers share their experience. […] It is a great honour and joy for me that the film is being broadcast in Russia,” said Giardino.

At the BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre, viewers were also able to watch the films “Discovering Ofala: Umudioka 2023” (Nigeria, 2023, directed by Tochukwu Nwaiwu), “Caribbean Festival. Fire Festival” (“Festival del Caribe. Fiesta del Fuego” Cuba, 2024, directed by Enrique Fumero), “Therukoothu” (India, 2025, directed by Vijay Bhaskaran), and the TV BRICS production “Partitura. Young Music of Russia” (Russia, 2025, directed by Ivan Zakharenko).

“The absolute exclusivity of our platform is that you won’t see these films anywhere else. They give us the opportunity to ‘visit’ these countries, experience their culture, learn their language, and discover their genre,” said Marina Zakharenko, Director General of the All-Russian State Library for Foreign Literature named after M. I. Rudomino.

TV BRICS annually holds screenings of documentary films by directors from BRICS+ countries on the platforms of partner festivals and as part of global cultural events in different countries. The screenings at the BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre have been prepared especially for the 10th anniversary of the all-Russian “Cinema Night” event.

“Cinema Night” has been held since 2015. It is timed to coincide with Russian Cinema Day, which is celebrated on 27 August. The event is organised with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. The operators of the campaign are Roskino and the Cinema Fund. The co-organiser of the campaign is the Russian Cultural Foundation.

The BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre was established by the Russian State Library for Foreign Literature named after M. I. Rudomino and the TV BRICS International Media Network in October 2024. Its activities are aimed at developing and strengthening humanitarian cooperation between different countries, promoting culture, science, and education.
