The Presidents of Russia and Iran, Vladimir Putin and Masoud Pezeshkian, held a telephone conversation during which they agreed to meet at the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China. This was reported by the official
website of the Russian President.
“A number of topical issues on the bilateral agenda were discussed, including in the field of energy and transport,” the statement said.
In addition, the parties considered issues on the international agenda.
Pezeshkian called the EAEU, SCO, and BRICS great formats for expanded cooperation with Russia, according to the
website of the Iranian President. Putin in his turn, described the relationship between Moscow and Tehran as constructive and steadily improving, highlighting an 11 per cent increase in trade between the two countries in the first half of the current year.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry also announced the talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi. They discussed the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement and the development of cooperation in the fields of transport and energy. The Ministers confirmed their intention to continue political dialogue and agreed on a schedule for upcoming contacts at various levels.
The SCO summit will take place on 31 August and 1 September. It will be attended by the Heads of state and government of more than 20 countries. Among them are Chinese President Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Masoud Pezeshkian, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Belarusian leader Aleksander Lukashenko, and others.
