Summer tourist traffic in Russia can reach 48 million trips

According to forecasts by the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, the 2025 summer tourist season, which traditionally lasts from May to September, promises to be a record-breaking one.

It is expected that during this period, Russians and foreign visitors will make about 48 million tourist trips, which is 8 per cent more than last year. Already in the first two months of the season – May and June – 16.5 million trips were recorded, which is almost 10 per cent more than in 2024.

Traditionally popular destinations – Moscow and St. Petersburg – remain in the lead, but significant growth is also observed in other regions. Tatarstan is actively developing, Krasnodar Krai shows a 3 per cent increase in traffic, and the opening of a new airport in Gelendzhik is expected to provide an additional stimulus for tourism. High growth rates are also observed in Adygea, Karachay-Cherkessia, and Nizhny Novgorod.

Russia is becoming increasingly attractive to foreign tourists: in June alone, their number grew by 18 per cent compared to last year. This was facilitated by the simplification of the visa regime and the active promotion of the Discover Russia programme, reports the official
website of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development.

Measures under the updated national tourism project are playing an important role in the development of the industry. Minister of Economic Development Maksim Reshetnikov noted that preferential lending will help build 347 new hotels with 78,000 rooms, of which 28 hotels with 4,700 rooms have already been put into operation.

Support is also being provided for large investment projects capable of increasing the capacity of tourist facilities to 53 million visits per year, including 21 new water parks, 16 modern ski resorts and four large amusement parks in 68 regions.
