DA to monitor Tshwane Mayor’s repayment plan to the city

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Tshwane says it will closely monitor whether Executive Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya repays the nearly R270 000 she was overpaid while serving as chief of staff in the Mayor’s office in 2019.

The payment stemmed from a once-off benchmarking salary adjustment applied to 78 senior officials in the metro.

Responding to the DA, Dr Moya questioned why the party had not raised the matter while it was governing the city and while she served as its Deputy Mayor.

She confirmed that she has voluntarily authorised a monthly repayment to the Metro.

The DA’s Jacqui Uys says the party will keep a close watch to ensure Moya honours her commitment.

“It is unfortunate that Mayor Moya had to be prompted to do what is right instead of setting an example of her own accord. This is the second repayment that Moya had to make to Tshwane. The first being R10 000 received for an international trip, which Moya did not undertake. The DA will continue to monitor the matter to ensure that payments are made.”
