Denis Manturov, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, has underlined the expanding role of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in the global economy, stressing that the group is becoming an important pillar of the new multipolar world.
Speaking in an interview for
CGTN, a partner of TV BRICS, Manturov recalled that the SCO, founded in 2001 by Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, has consistently contributed to stability and economic cooperation. Today, member states together account for about a quarter of global GDP – around US$25 trillion. Intra-SCO trade has grown by nearly 30 per cent over the past five years, with industrial goods making up 60 per cent of the exchange.
Russia, he noted, is promoting advanced industries within its territory as part of the organisation’s future agenda. “We have put forward initiatives in robotics, biotechnology and the bioeconomy. This is where we see the future, and we will support it,” Manturov said.
Touching on relations between China and Russia, he highlighted that bilateral trade reached US$245 billion last year, having increased 2.5 times in five years. He added that cooperation is expanding beyond the automotive, space and aviation sectors, with strong potential in energy and machinery manufacturing.
According to Manturov, such developments reflect the SCO’s growing role as not only a security forum but also a platform driving economic integration and technological progress across Eurasia.
