Indian Prime Minister Modi meets Chinese President Xi in Tianjin on sidelines of SCO Summit

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the port city of Tianjin on Sunday, marking Modi’s first visit to China in over seven years, according to
ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.

Modi arrived on Saturday evening, landing at Binhai International Airport ahead of the
Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit scheduled for 31 August – 1 September at the Meijiang Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties based on mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity. The meeting aimed to build on recent progress in relations.

Modi also acknowledged Xi’s invitation and highlighted steps forward, including direct flights between the two nations.

The Indian leader also stressed that the collaboration between India and China, home to 2.8 billion people, holds immense significance not just for the two countries, but for the greater good of humanity.

The SCO Summit will see participation from 20 countries and 10 international organisations. In addition to the leaders of China, and India, attendees will include the Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian leader Masoud Pezeshkian, the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Kao Kim Hourn and others.
