Egypt to host G20 meeting for first time in history

For the first time since the G20 was established, its official meeting will be held outside the participating countries. It will take place in Cairo from 1 to 3 September, according to
Sada El-Balad, a partner of TV BRICS.

As noted by the representative of the President of Egypt in the G20, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for International and Regional Multilateral Economic Cooperation Ragui El-Etreby, the decision to hold the meeting in Cairo is a recognition of the country’s growing role in the international arena and the culmination of Egypt’s participation in the G20 events as a guest country.

Food security will be the key topic of discussion. The G20 countries, invited countries, and representatives of international organisations and financial institutions will take part in the discussions. The meeting itself will be coordinated with the South African Republic, which currently holds the presidency of the association.

The main task is to summarise the work of the G20 working group and agree on a draft joint statement on food security. The final version of this document is expected to be approved by foreign ministers at a separate meeting in South Africa on 19 September. It will then be presented to heads of state at the G20 summit in Johannesburg on 22-23 November.
