Ethiopia expresses readiness to host UN Climate Conference in 2027

President of Ethiopia Taye Atske Selassie announced the country’s readiness to host the 32nd Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP32) in 2027. He emphasised that the republic’s environmental programmes and its strategic position confirm Ethiopia’s capacity to lead the next stage of global climate initiatives. This was reported by
Fana Media Corporation (FMC), a partner of TV BRICS.

The statement was made during the opening ceremony of the Second Climate Week in Addis Ababa.

The President noted that Ethiopia has all the necessary infrastructure to hold the conference. He also advocated the creation of a new financial system that would enable African countries to tackle the effects of climate change without hindering development.

As arguments in favour of hosting COP32 in Ethiopia, the President cited key national projects. Among them are the “Green Legacy” initiative, through which more than 14.75 billion trees have already been planted, and the initiative on cultivating climate-resilient wheat.

Climate Week in Addis Ababa is part of preparations for the Second Africa Climate Summit. Both events are aimed at aligning the climate agenda among the countries of the continent.

The Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is the main international forum for discussing and adopting decisions in the field of combating the consequences of climate change. In 2025, it will be held in Belem, Brazil.
