The Brazilian government has inaugurated the first Community Sports Centre (Centro Esportivo Comunitário) built under the nationwide initiative, marking a new step towards expanding access to sport and recreation.
The new facility is expected to benefit approximately 80,000 residents and serves as a model for similar projects planned across the country. This is reported by the
official website of Brazil’s Secretariat of Social Communication.
The project signifies the beginning of a series of planned investments in community infrastructure designed to promote health, social inclusion, and urban renewal. Rio Grande do Norte alone is slated to receive 19 such centres in various municipalities.
The new sports centre provides a structured space for sports and recreation, catering to a long-standing need in the Planalto neighbourhood and surrounding communities.
Local government officials emphasised the social impact of the new facility, noting that it transforms what was previously an undeveloped area into a high-quality sports plaza that will welcome children, youth, adults, and seniors. The space is intended to foster community, citizenship, and personal growth.
