Russia and Indonesia agree to hold joint competitions

Russian Minister of Sport and President of the Russian Olympic Committee Mikhail Degtyarev met with the head of the Indonesian Olympic Committee, Raja Sapta Oktohari. Following the talks, a memorandum of cooperation for 2025-2029 was signed, according to the
press service of the Russian Ministry of Sport.

The parties agreed to exchange coaches and specialists, organise joint competitions and training camps, support the development of mass and youth sports, as well as educational initiatives and grants.

Degtyarev emphasised the practical significance of the agreement.

“The meeting will give new impetus to cooperation between our departments and will contribute to strengthening Olympic values, which are shared by both sides – the pursuit of peace, friendship, respect and mutual understanding through sport,” he said.

According to the head of the ministry, more than 190 Russian athletes have already travelled to Indonesia in 2025, dozens of times more than last year. Degtyarev added that special attention is being paid to developing cooperation in sports such as badminton, sambo, surfing, gymnastics and sports for people with disabilities. The minister also assured that requests from the Indonesian side, including assistance with equipment and invitations to Russian coaches, will be considered and fulfilled.

The President of the Indonesian Olympic Committee, in turn, noted the importance of cooperation for the development of new sports in his country, including winter disciplines. He expressed his gratitude to the Russian side for the prompt preparation of the memorandum and emphasised his interest in expanding educational exchanges and joint programmes.
