Nine people, including five children, have died in the Malaysian state of Sabah as a result of landslides caused by prolonged rainfall. This was reported by

The natural disaster occurred in the morning. Kota Kinabalu Police Chief Kasim Muda said that in the village of Kampung Cenderakasih, where a residential building was destroyed, three adults and four children were found dead.
“Four survived, including one with a broken leg” he said.
Almost simultaneously, the disaster struck the town of Papar, 40 km south of Kota Kinabalu. A landslide hit a house in the village of Kampung Mook, killing a woman and a child under the rubble.
Another landslide was recorded on the same day in the village of Kampung Marahang Tuntul. According to the State Fire and Rescue Department Director, Mohd Pisar Aziz, work is underway to rescue two people, while another is still missing.
Dozens of rescuers from neighbouring regions were sent to deal with the aftermath. According to the authorities, more than 860 people have been evacuated to temporary accommodation.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that the government’s priority is to provide immediate assistance to those affected. He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and stressed that priority will be given to restoring public infrastructure, including roads, schools, and medical facilities.
