Brazilian ports handle record monthly cargo volume in July

Brazilian ports recorded in July the largest monthly cargo volume in the nation’s history, handling 124.7 million tonnes. Of this total, 73 per cent was long-distance shipping for exports and imports, while 20 per cent was domestic coasting trade between Brazilian ports. This is reported by Agencia Brasil.

In the first seven months of 2025, total cargo movement reached 780.4 million tonnes, an increase of 1.76 per cent compared with the same period in 2024.

Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen national infrastructure.

“Our focus is to ensure legal security and attract new investments. This policy, led by President Lula da Silva, is increasing port capacity and strengthening Brazil’s exports,” he said. The Minister added that expanding port capacity is fundamental to the national economy.

The main cargo transported in July was solid bulk – minerals and agricultural products – totaling more than 76.6 million tonnes. All types of cargo showed growth compared with July 2024. Liquid bulk, particularly fuels, increased by 6 per cent, solid bulk rose nearly 4 per cent, containerised cargo grew by 3 per cent, and total cargo volume was 0.9 per cent higher than the same month last year, according to the Ministry.
