Russia to compile first Index of Persian Manuscripts

Russia is set to embark on a project to create a comprehensive index of Persian manuscripts held within its libraries. The agreement was reached during a meeting between Abbas Salehi, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance of Iran, and Denis Tsypkin, General Director of the National Library of Russia.

Speaking at the meeting, the Culture Minister described the library as “a treasure and heritage of humanity,” particularly in the realm of Iranian studies. He highlighted the significance of the developing Comprehensive Strategic Agreement between Russia and Iran, noting that collaboration on manuscripts represents an important opportunity for both nations.

Denis Tsypkin, in turn, expressed his commitment to fostering bilateral cooperation. He stated the library’s readiness to exchange leading scholars and young researchers with Iranian counterparts. This is reported by
IRNA, a partner of TV BRICS.

The two parties agreed to initiate a collaborative effort, involving the Institute of Manuscripts of the Russian National Academy of Sciences, to catalogue the Persian manuscripts held in Russian collections. This project aims to provide researchers and scholars with improved access to these important historical resources.
