Thailand plans to build land bridge to attract investment

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has ordered the construction of a land bridge costing nearly 1 trillion baht (about US$31.5 billion) to stimulate the economy and attract long-term investment. This was reported by
Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS.

The aim of the project is to turn Thailand into a key logistics and trade hub in Asia. This will create a land corridor between the Gulf of Thailand with the Andaman Sea. Modern deep-water ports will be built on both coasts. They will be connected by railways, high-speed motorways and pipelines.

This route will become an alternative to the Strait of Malacca, allowing ships to shorten their journey and avoid congestion on one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

Preparatory work and design have already begun in 2025, with an international tender scheduled for 2026 and the first phase of the project expected to be operational by 2030. This approach is attracting large foreign investments to create a transregional logistics hub.
