Malaysia ranks second in ASEAN for digital readiness

Malaysia has been ranked second in the newly released ASEAN Digital Nations Index 2025, as reported by
BERNAMA, a partner of TV BRICS.

The index measures the digital readiness of ASEAN member states across five key areas: infrastructure, innovation, data governance, security, and people. Malaysia achieved an overall score above 60 out of 100, positioning it in the top tier of digitally advanced economies in the region.

Malaysia’s strongest performance was recorded in the People component, where it scored between 76 and 100, reflecting progress in expanding access to digital services and improving workforce digital competencies. Analysts noted that this highlights sustained national efforts to build inclusive participation in the digital economy.

The assessment praised Malaysia’s strategic steps to accelerate transformation, including the adoption of the AI Nation Framework launched in August 2025, aimed at integrating artificial intelligence into everyday services and governance.

Infrastructure development remains a crucial area, with ongoing expansion of data centres and cloud services expected to drive growth.
