Iran’s largest solar energy project begins operation in Isfahan

Iran has inaugurated its largest solar energy project with the launch of the Eastern Sun Solar Power Plant in Isfahan province, as reported by
Pars Today, a partner of TV BRICS.

The 120-megawatt first phase of the US$330 million project was officially opened by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in the presence of senior ministers and provincial officials.

Located 10 kilometres west of Kuhpayeh, the plant occupies 1,200 hectares and benefits from the region’s dry climate and high solar radiation. The facility sits near State Road 62 and the historic Haj Hassan Caravanserai.

The Eastern Sun project is planned to expand to 600 megawatts by March 2027, with remaining capacity to be added in phases over the next 18 months.

The development is expected to create hundreds of jobs and strengthen the economy of one of Iran’s key industrial regions.
