Khumalo to testify at the Madlanga Commission

Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo will take to the witness stand at the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria on Monday, which is looking into allegations of corruption and political interference in the criminal justice system.

Khumalo will be the fifth witness to testify before the Commission.

The inquiry has already heard testimony from National Police commissioner Fannie Masemola and KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who have both lauded Khumalo’s work in the political killings task team.

Masemola and Mkhwanazi praised Khumalo for cracking major cases that include that of Vereeniging Engineer Armand Swart, who died after getting shot 23 times and that of former African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) Secretary-General Sindiso Maqaga, who was assassinated in 2017.

Khumalo is also expected to testify about his July arrest, where he was charged alongside six others for fraud and corruption.

During his testimony, Mkhwanazi told the commission that he believes Khumalo’s charges are politically motivated and an attempt to weaken anti-corruption operations.
