Egypt targets sustainable urban transformation with new Smart Cities Strategy

Egypt has unveiled its Smart Cities Strategy, a major initiative that seeks to address rapid urbanisation, climate challenges, and spatial inequalities, while fostering economic growth and social inclusion, reports
Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

The strategy marks a departure from previous approaches focused primarily on building new urban centres. Instead, it integrates both existing and new cities into a cohesive national framework.

Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment Manal Awad stressed that successful smart cities require advanced technology, robust legislation, innovative financing, and active citizen participation, ensuring communities are true partners in shaping their urban future.

Awad highlighted that the strategy has a people-centred approach aimed to provide adequate housing, quality public services, safe mobility, economic opportunities, and a healthy environment, all aligned with international commitments.
