Torrential rains have triggered landslides in the Indian state of West Bengal. Official reports indicate that the disaster has claimed the lives of at least 23 people and injured numerous others. The information was provided by

The natural disaster also struck the Darjeeling district overnight from Sunday to Monday, destroying houses and blocking mountain roads. Tourist areas were particularly affected: hundreds of holidaymakers were left stranded without communication or access to infrastructure.
Authorities have reported severe damage to communication networks. Major tourist attractions in Darjeeling have been closed, and residents and visitors to the region have been urged to exercise extreme caution and monitor weather updates closely.
Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, during an emergency meeting, announced that she would personally visit the affected areas. She stated that more than 300 mm of rainfall had been recorded in the region over 12 hours, triggering extensive landslides and flooding in at least seven districts.
Rescue operations are currently ongoing, with police and emergency services attempting to reach the isolated settlements.
