The Chinese grassroots football tournament known as the Village Super League is aiming to boost international engagement by organising matches with Brazilian players. This is reported by
Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to Wang Yonggui, deputy director of the Guizhou Provincial Office for the League, the long-term ambition is to host a “Village World Cup” by 2028.
Rongjiang, the host city located in the Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, has already invited around 30 teams and more than 1,200 players from across the world, including Brazil, for friendly matches and cultural exchange.
Brazilian teams, in particular, have proven to be major crowd-pullers among local football fans, the report noted. The visiting squads, made up of youth players from several Brazilian states, have an average age of just 20 and consist mostly of academy-level talent.
