Egypt reports record 7.5 million tonnes in agricultural exports

Egypt’s agricultural exports have reached around 7.5 million tonnes, marking an increase of 650,000 tonnes compared to the same period last year, according to Alaa Farouk, the country’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.

Citrus fruits topped the list of exports, accounting for over 1.9 million tonnes. The minister noted that this growth reflects the strengthening of Egypt’s agricultural sector and its rising competitiveness in international markets, according to
Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

Egypt currently exports more than 405 agricultural products to 167 countries and has recently gained access to several new markets: South Africa for pomegranates, the Philippines for fresh onions and garlic, and Mexico for hibiscus. In addition, Venezuela has opened its borders to all varieties of Egyptian citrus.

The minister emphasised that agriculture remains a cornerstone of Egypt’s economy and a vital component of national food security.
