Chinese scientists create smart fabric that enables AI to recognise voice commands

Chinese researchers have developed an innovative textile that allows artificial intelligence systems to recognise voice commands by amplifying the electrostatic signals naturally produced during speech – a development that could transform the interaction between humans and technology. This is reported by
Xinhua NewsAgency, a partner of TV BRICS.

The breakthrough showcases how traditional manufacturing and modern AI can complement each other. The group of scientists created a flexible, washable and lightweight triboelectric acoustic textile, known as A-Textile.

Unlike conventional rigid devices, this soft fabric generates and enhances electrostatic charges through a multi-layered structure composed of tin-sulphide nanoflowers embedded in silicone rubber and a carbonised textile layer. The result is a material that functions both as a garment and as an acoustic sensor.

According to the research team, the textile achieved a voice recognition accuracy of 97.5 per cent, allowing users to control various devices through simple verbal instructions.

Researchers believe this fusion of traditional textile engineering and artificial intelligence could lead to a new generation of intelligent fabrics that sense, process and interact with their environment.
