MERCOSUR countries join forces to strengthen tourism ties

The member and associate countries of the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) have strengthened progress in regional tourism cooperation during a meeting held in Brasília, according to the official website of Brazil’s Ministry of Tourism.

At the ministerial session chaired by Brazil’s Tourism Minister, Celso Sabino, participants agreed on measures to reinforce regional integration and joint promotion of destinations under the “Visit South America” brand. They also committed to continuing projects that highlight the historical attractions of Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

The gathering also focused on the development of gastronomic and nature-based tourism, featuring initiatives such as the “Southern Natural Route”, aimed at combining environmental sustainability with local development.

Ministers and representatives emphasised the role of tourism as a driver of identity, culture, and regional cooperation.

Sabino stressed that MERCOSUR has the potential to become a global benchmark for sustainable tourism, bringing together environmental protection, culture, and social inclusion.

In a new initiative, Brazil proposed the creation of the “MERCOSUR Football and Stadiums Route”, designed to link stadiums, museums, and experiences related to football, strengthening its cultural and tourism value.
