China and Saudi Arabia develop new geological mapping methods for Kingdom

China and Saudi Arabia are carrying out four major projects in the field of Earth sciences, during which they have developed and applied new, more efficient standards for geological mapping. This was reported by
China Daily, a partner of TV BRICS, citing the Ministry of Natural Resources of the People’s Republic of China.

Saudi geologists, together with researchers from China, are mastering advanced technologies for mapping, data analysis and interpretation. These standards are of strategic importance for the Kingdom, as they enable more accurate assessment of mineral resources and identification of new deposits.

“The combination of [Chinese and international] methodologies has allowed us to achieve a fundamentally new level of map accuracy,” said Ashraf N. Qubsani, Mapping Project Manager at the Saudi Geological Survey.

The joint work of the China Geological Survey and the Arab state has been underway since 2020, involving more than 200 technical specialists. According to China’s Minister of Natural Resources, Wang Guanghua, geology and mineral resources are key areas of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

At the same time, China is advancing global geoscientific initiatives. For instance, the UNESCO International Research Centre on Global Geochemistry, established in China, is contributing to the creation of a worldwide environmental monitoring system. Scientists have compiled a database on the natural content of chemical elements in soils across various continents.
