UN report forecasts 10% decline in global greenhouse gas emissions by 2035

The United Nations has reported progress made by countries in fulfilling their commitments to combat the effects of climate change. This is
stated in the 2025 report on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), published on the website of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

As noted by
CGTN, a partner of TV BRICS, the document was presented ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30), which will take place from 10 to 21 November in Belem, Brazil.

The report is based on an analysis of national action plans for reducing emissions from 64 signatories to the Paris Agreement. According to the UN, countries are taking increasingly comprehensive measures to transition to a sustainable economy; however, the pace of change remains insufficient to achieve global targets.

Estimates suggest that, taking into account newly declared goals and plans, global greenhouse gas emissions could decrease by around 10 per cent by 2035.

“The report emphasises that although progress is already visible, efforts must be significantly intensified to ensure a faster reduction in emissions and to keep global warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius,” said UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stephane Dujarric.

Earlier, the World Meteorological Organization of the UN recorded the recovery of the Earth’s ozone layer. Experts attributed this to natural atmospheric factors and active international efforts.
