Kazakhstan has become the first country in Central Asia to achieve the World Health Organization’s (WHO) global goal of reducing premature mortality from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by 25 per cent by 2025, reports
Kazinform, a partner of TV BRICS.
This success was made possible primarily through the large-scale development of the country’s emergency medical care system, particularly in tackling cardiovascular diseases. Between 2017 and 2024, Kazakhstan established a network of 85 stroke centres, significantly improving the quality of care for patients with acute cerebrovascular conditions.
The effectiveness of the new system is confirmed by statistics. In the first nine months of 2025, more than 39,000 patients received treatment in stroke centres across Kazakhstan. In-hospital mortality has fallen to 11.3 per cent, one of the best results in recent years.
Non-communicable diseases are chronic conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory diseases. To mark World Stroke Day on 29 October, an open day was held at the National Coordination Centre for Emergency Medicine in Astana to raise public awareness of this condition.
