Brazil has officially resumed its poultry trade with Malaysia and opened six new markets for agricultural products. The announcement came after a meeting between Brazil’s Agriculture Minister, Carlos Favaro, and Malaysia’s Agriculture and Food Security Minister, Mohamad Sabu. This was reported by
Brasil247, a partner of TV BRICS.
Talks between the ministers focused on reopening the Malaysian market for Brazilian chicken, previously suspended over avian flu concerns. Favaro said the process, which normally takes a year, was completed in just three months.
“We came from Indonesia directly to Malaysia and held our first bilateral meeting with excellent news, the swift resumption of poultry trade,” he stated.
Beyond poultry, Brazil secured access for several other products. Malaysia has authorised imports of wild and farmed fish, sesame seeds, melons, apples and powdered eggs. It also agreed to bring forward an audit of 16 Brazilian pork plants, paving the way for future pork exports..
Trade between Brazil and Malaysia continues to expand. In 2024, bilateral trade reached US$487.2 million, with US$346.4 million in Brazilian exports and US$140.9 million in imports.
