Aleksander Lukashenko: Belarus to support India’s BRICS chairmanship

Belarus is ready to do everything necessary to ensure the success of India’s BRICS chairmanship in 2026, said President Aleksander Lukashenko during a meeting with Indian Ambassador Ashok Kumar, according to a report by
BelTA, a partner of TV BRICS.

In addition, he noted that the current level of trade between the two countries does not reflect the true potential of their economies. He believes that the target of US$2-3 billion in annual trade is entirely achievable and urged both sides to work actively towards this goal.

Over the first nine months of this year, trade turnover between the two nations exceeded US$605 million, marking a 74 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. Belarus’ exports to India grew by 2.7 times.

Lukashenko also invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Belarus. The President noted that the leaders share warm and friendly relations.

Belarus holds the status of a BRICS partner country and has officially participated in the organisation’s activities since the beginning of 2025.
