Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Belarus increases by 20%

Trade turnover between Belarus and Kazakhstan has grown by 20 per cent over the past eight months compared with the previous year, reports
Kazinform, a TV BRICS partner, citing Akorda.

In the field of industrial production, the two countries have implemented 12 projects worth US$204 million. Three more projects are currently under development, the agency notes.

Prime Minister of Belarus Aleksander Turchin arrived in Kazakhstan on Tuesday for an official two-day visit, during which he met with the President of the Republic, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The politicians discussed plans for bilateral cooperation in trade, industrial production and culture. As the Kazakhstan leader noted, the relations between the two countries are of a strategic partnership nature.

“Trade between our countries is developing successfully, amounting to somewhere between US$900 million and US$1 billion. As far as I know, Kazakhstan is Belarus’s second-largest trading partner. […] We are committed to the most positive and result-orientated cooperation,” said Tokayev.

Turchin, for whom this was his first official visit to Astana since taking office as Prime Minister, assured that he intends to continue supporting a mutually beneficial dialogue between the countries, as well as coordinate the implementation of the tasks set by their leaders.

“For a long time, Kazakhstan has demonstrated stable economic growth, and we cannot but rejoice at the achievements you have reached today. As you have rightly said, our mutual trade turnover is increasing,” he concluded.

According to
BelTA, a TV BRICS partner, during his visit Turchin also held talks with the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov. The discussions focused on further strengthening trade and economic ties, with one of the main priorities being cooperation in industry, particularly in mechanical engineering.
