President of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was born on 19 November 1954 in Cairo. Throughout his career, he has held a number of prominent political positions. In particular, from 2019 to 2020, he chaired the African Union.
In the 2014 presidential election, El-Sisi won with 96.9 per cent of the vote and became the sixth president in the history of modern Egypt. Four years later, in 2018, he was re-elected for a second term with 97.08 per cent. On 18 December 2023, the leader secured another victory, receiving 89.6 per cent of the vote, and was elected for a third presidential term.
During his leadership, Egypt has achieved significant success on the international stage. In January 2024, the country officially became a full member of BRICS. In the same year, El-Sisi took part for the first time in the summit of the group, which was held in Kazan during Russia’s chairmanship.
Under El-Sisi’s leadership, Egypt has strengthened its bilateral ties with BRICS countries by signing a number of memoranda and cooperation agreements in such areas as agriculture, energy, tourism, and education.
Another important step was Egypt’s accession to the BRICS New Development Bank. This gave the country the opportunity to jointly finance infrastructure and environmental projects with other members of the group.
