The XVI Brazilian Film Festival will take place in four Russian cities. Screenings will be held in Nizhny Novgorod (13–16 November), Kaliningrad (20–23 November), Saint Petersburg (27–30 November), and Moscow (2–7 December). The central event of the programme will be Walter Salles’ film “I’m Still Here”.
The Ambassador of Brazil to Moscow, Sergio Rodrigues, noted the strong interest of Russian audiences in Brazilian cinema.
“This cultural exchange strengthens the bonds of friendship between our countries and demonstrates the universal power of cinema. This year, the success of films awarded at major international festivals confirms the strength and maturity of our audiovisual industry,” he emphasised.
The programme includes six new films, including dramas and documentaries. Audiences will see “Portrait of the Unknown East” (“Retrato de um Certo Oriente”), about a love story between a young man and a woman of different faiths in the Amazon; the drama “Magic Land”, about an ornithologist re-evaluating her life; and the documentary “Bituca” (“Milton Bituca Nascimento”), on the work of iconic Brazilian musician Milton Nascimento.
The Brazilian Film Festival has been held in Russia since 2008 with the support of the Embassy of Brazil. Over this time, it has been attended by more than 50,000 viewers.
